Postdoc (m,f,x) for the period until 31.12.2024 (end of project) with 39,83 hours per week, TV-L E13

Carbon Sources and Conversion develops concepts for the sustainable use of carbon. The focus is on the use of carbon from renewable, industrial and domestic sources, the development of conversion technologies and products and research into the fundamentals of anthropogenic carbon cycles. Ecologically and economically promising conversion technologies are demonstrated at laboratory and pilot scale.
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher (m,f,x) (39.83 hours per week) to work on innovative carbon-based materials and challenging research topics in the field of environmental technology. The focus will be on the development of carbon materials for agricultural and construction applications. The postdoc (m,f,x) will explore the fundamentals of the technology at laboratory scale and establish the appropriate process engineering to scale up the chemical conversion to industrial scale. Tasks will include experimental design, high pressure reactor operation, detailed characterization of carbon materials and complex inorganic phases and determination of reaction kinetics.
extent: full-time
duration: temporary beginning: as soon as possible
application deadline: 08.07.2024
Your tasks:
Characterization of fly ash, inorganic materials and carbon black by instrumental analysis (including XRD, SEM, XRF, leaching tests, EPR, solid-state NMR)
Experimental work on the sequestration of carbon dioxide into value-added products in high-pressure reactors
Experimental work on chemical functionalization of carbon black for agricultural and construction applications
Development of research plans, documentation of measured data and determination of reaction kinetics and other reaction engineering parameters

Your profile

PhD in chemical engineering, process engineering or environmental engineering
Expertise in handling chemical compounds and carbon dioxide at high pressure
Knowledge and extensive experience of instrumental analysis including XRD, EPR, solid state NMR
Expertise in materials, inorganic phases and materials characterization
Detailed understanding of reaction engineering and process development
Experience in laboratory plant design, high pressure reactors and process implementation
Willingness to collaborate with industrial partners
Excellent knowledge of English
