The Chair of Theoretical Physics II at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy is looking for a

PhD Researcher (m,f,x) in theoretical nuclear physics for 3 years with 26,2878 hours per week, TV-L E13

The Institut of Theoretical Physics II invites outstanding candidates to apply for a PhD researcher position for the theoretical research in the field of few-body physics.
The position will be embedded in the ERATO Collaborative Research Project Project between Ruhr University Bochum and Tokyo Institute of Technology, funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency. The PhD project is devoted to theoretical research in the areas of (hyper-) nuclear forces and few-body dynamics in the framework of Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations. Tasks include the development of hyperon-nucleon interactions using chiral effective field theory as well as performing computational studies of three- and four-body scattering.
extent: part-time
duration: temporary beginning: as soon as possible
application deadline: 08.07.2024
Your tasks:
develop nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon potentials in the framework of chiral effective field theory, which will be suitable for applications using the variational Gaussian Expansion Method
work towards the numerical solution of the Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations for four-nucleon scattering

Your profile

a completed M.S. degree in physics with excellent grades
strong background in theoretical nuclear physics, ideally also in few-body physics
experience in the development and implementation of algorithms (ideally using Fortran and Python)
interest and preferrably experience in computational physics
proven analytic skills
keen and willing to work in a competitive international environment
oral and written proficiency in English
motivated to organize and write scientific documents describing the work
