Materials Engineer (m/w/d) - Materials development

Do you like to solve problems that help others and provide the best support regarding Materials possible to our products within Siemens Energy, especially for our Large Gas and Steam Turbine products?
As an engineer within a globally positioned team, you will support complex technology development projects with your specialized knowledge. This will significantly contribute to the advancement and reliable operation of Siemens Energy's gas and steam turbines. The primary focus of this position is to investigate and develop metallic materials for our gas turbine products. This entails selecting and optimizing materials to achieve efficiency and reliability targets, thereby supporting our decarbonization goals. As part of a network of materials engineers, you will use your technical expertise to drive material development, playing a pivotal role in advancing our materials landscape and enabling the development of future products.
How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Support future materials strategies with expert materials knowledge, supported by testing activities, for new and advanced high strength materials and materials systems
  • Coordinate material development projects in global teams, from project initiation, feasibility studies to test planning and evaluation of properties´ test data for turbine design
  • Consultancy in materials relevant topics to design, manufacturing and procurement departments
  • Definition of and adherence to project plans, deliverables, and budget boundaries
  • Representing Siemens Energy's interests in project-related research committees and incorporating acquired knowledge into future development projects
  • Managing R&D programs within a specified budget and time frame

What You Bring

  • Master or PhD in Materials Sciences or Mechanical Engineering with focus on Materials or another similar field; 5 to 8 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Characteristics of steels and nickel-based materials for power engineering with in-depth knowledge of alloy formation and their analysis, as well as alloy optimization
  • Measurement and evaluation of mechanical and technological properties including a solid understanding of damage mechanisms and damage models in materials mechanics
  • Expertise in composite materials for highly demanding mechanical applications is advantageous
  • Excellent team skills with effective communication & interpersonal skills to blend in a multicultural and cross-organizational team; experience in handling multiple and urgent topics at the same time & setting priorities
  • Advanced English and German skills

Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
